Horton Plains

 


Horton Plains in Sri Lanka, is the coldest and windiest location in the country. It is located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. The Horton Plains are the headwaters of three major Sri Lankan rivers such as the Mahaweli, Kelani and Walawe. 

Horton Plains is a UNESCO World Heritage site where is protected areas for its nature beauty. It is a beautiful landscape of rolling hills, forests, and grassland. At present, the largest and the most commonly seen mammal is the sambar deer. 


The very best time of the year for visiting Horton Plains is from January to March early in the morning. The journey is difficult but fun. "The horton plains is an environmental institute"
